Hollywood Vampires is an American rock band formed in 2015 by the singer Alice Cooper, the actor Johnny Depp and the guitarist Joe Perry to pay tribute to the music of deceased rock stars of the 1970s.
The origin of the band’s name comes from a club formed by Alice in the late 70’s, which included visits from musicians such as John Lennon of The Beatles, Keith Moon of The Who or Micky Dolenz of The Monkees. Some musicians who have toured with the band include Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum (Guns N’ Roses) or Robert DeLeo of Stone Temple Pilots.
The band released their first album titled Hollywood Vampires in 2015, featuring guest appearances by Paul McCartney, Dave Grohl, Joe Walsh and Christopher Lee, among others. Their second album arrived in 2019, titled Rise, with both original songs and covers of David Bowie or Johnny Thunders.
In 2020, Depp released a cover of John Lennon’s “Isolation” with the guitarist Jeff Beck, and stated that they would be releasing more music together in the future.
The passion for music was what led the actor to meet the components of the band. Johnny Depp met Alice Cooper during the filming of the movie “Dark Shadows” by Tim Burton, starring Johnny, in which he had a cameo, being also one of the key moments that later led to the creation of the band.
